My son has signed for his first football team this season and just two games in, was awarded man of the match. Loving football like I do, I couldn't have been prouder.
I'd been planning to do a pro footballer shoot with Ben wearing his Rossgarth FC kit, mainly for fun and for family memories, plus I wanted to hang one of the 24x16" mounted prints I produce as I love the finish on them. Knowing he grabbed the man of the match the day of the shoot was a bonus.
You'll of seen shots of Ben in my portfolios already so I wanted to do something different. When Ben came in from a training session in the rain completely soaked earlier that week, I immediately thought I wanted to try and re-create this wet look after his match that coming weekend. I'm always continuing to experiment with new techniques so figured I would create a wet, stormy look to the image. To pull this off I managed to persuade (bribe) Ben to let me hose him down a bit after the match to give the look of heavy rainy weather.
Once he was soaked, we moved into the studio and started working on some poses. I loved this particular look so began putting the images together. Where this is a personal project, I was afforded the luxury of time, so I worked on this over about 3 weeks. Coming back to a creative image like this helps in terms of reviewing what I've done with a clear head and fresh eyes, and that really helped with this one when trying to pull off the bad weather look. I had also applied some elements that I eventually removed as I didn't think they looked right.
Any way, as always, here are the before and after shots plus Ben holding the print........
I was pretty pleased with the results so mounted the image onto black and added some wording at the bottom before ordering an enlarged 24"x16" print. Here is a shot of Ben pleased (or pretending to be pleased) with the print.
Thanks for reading. Keep an eye on the blog next week. Especially if you are a new follower of my work here on the blog or on social media. In meantime, have a great weekend!
